EnergyOn

The Swiss electricity grid ultimately needs to become more flexible, especially following the arrival of the new renewable energies. The establishment in Switzerland of an electricity exchange, where electricity is bought and sold by the half-hour, opens up new business perspectives. Optimum supply and targeted energy management make it possible to achieve substantial savings, and even to generate additional revenue.

This is something the start-up EnergyOn understands well. Specialising in computer simulations dedicated to the energy market, it helps its clients to buy and sell their electricity at the right time, and above all to earn money from flexible operating patterns that enable them to consume energy or not at any given time. Momentarily cutting the power supply to certain installations makes this unconsumed energy available for other consumers without loss of comfort or convenience. This in turn enables production and consumption to be smoothed out in the short term (by offering balancing energy), and the supply and demand to be optimised at the regional level (increasing grid stability).

The added value of energy

Founded in 2013 in Visp and affiliated to the Upper Valais company Misurio, EnergyOn places the emphasis on the added value that can be gained from good energy management. EnergyOn supports industrial, commercial and service enterprises in the purchase and optimum consumption of electricity and natural gas. For complex optimisation tasks, such as forecasting the prices on the Intraday energy market or creating balancing energy pools (reactive power, etc.), EnergyOn relies on well-proven modelling tools developed over the years by Misurio. The latter company is also responsible for the exploitation and development of the EnergyOn platform.

Specifically, EnergyOn uses several products. Using targeted energy audits, which take around half a day per production site, it is capable of showing whether the energy is used effectively or whether there is capacity to consume the energy more flexibly by the planned disconnection of certain items of plant and machinery.

An individual evaluation is sent to the audited company with a presentation of the existing potential for buying and selling energy in the marketplace. A CO2 analysis is also carried out to complete the picture.

Specific applications of intelligent networks

The young start-up also identifies companies’ capacity for the flexible production of energy. It identifies the possibilities and examines the market to evaluate the economic potential for selling this flexibility at the best price. The partner companies also have access to EnergyOn’s pool of balancing energy, a significant advantage in a dynamic market where the critical mass is a determining factor.

In these particularly turbulent times for the energy sphere, there is no doubt that EnergyOn, with its specific applications for intelligent networks, can look forward to an excellent future. It is a fine example of the dynamism of the energy ecosystem in Valais, the land of energy.
