Pharmalp

Pharmalp is a Valais start-up founded in September 2011. Based at the PhytoArk in Sion-Conthey, it develops and distributes Alpine plant-based therapeutic solutions, especially nutritional supplements, soothing gels and creams. One of Pharmalp’s objectives is to provide therapeutic solutions that target both the symptoms and causes of recurring infectious conditions, as well as reducing the side-effects of certain treatments, such as those in oncology.

Philippe Meuwly, the founder of Pharmalp, is a doctor of biology with 12 years’ experience in the field of plant biology research and around 15 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. His intention when founding Pharmalp was to provide innovative, natural health solutions for the health-conscious.

Gastro-intestinal conditions and infections

The solutions developed by Pharmalp act mainly on gastro-intestinal conditions, the immune system and some infections, to improve and maintain the wellbeing of our consumers. The start-up therefore commercially develops probiotics, nutritional supplements that are key to health and to the wellbeing of the digestive and immune systems, as well as Alpine plant extracts and phytotherapy products that are particularly effective against infectious diseases such as vaginal and urinary infections, and skin irritation or inflammation.

Pharmalp undertakes some of its R&D in-house. Its staff work on the development of effective natural solutions based on Alpine plant extracts collected or cultivated in Switzerland. Mediplant manages the agronomic development of new Alpine plants for use in the products, then Valplantes cultivates them. Part of the research is conducted in partnership with the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the Geneva-Lausanne School of Pharmacy (EPGL, University of Geneva) and other Swiss universities (Universities of Basel and Fribourg).

Pharmalp is a former start-up of The Ark Incubator. It is still housed on the PhytoArk technological park at Sion-Conthey. This young company is involved in several research and development projects supported by The Ark.
