The Hackathon of Sierre rewards three projects that will advance the health of tomorrow

Rapid diagnosis of tropical diseases using an innovative computer platform: this was the winning project at the third edition of the Arkathon Hacking Health Valais on Sunday at the TechnoArk in Sierre. The goal of this information and technology marathon in Switzerland was to advance the health of tomorrow, which will likely become more reliant on digital technologies. Altogether, nearly 80 people, including some sixty developers and computer designers, worked non-stop for 45 hours on 12 different projects. Three prizes were awarded at the conclusion of the weekend.

Following the presentation of the results from the weekend, a jury of heath and innovation professionals awarded prizes. The Medical University of Lausanne (PMU) proposed the winning project, called the FeverTravelApp. This project was awarded the grand prize worth CHF20,000; they will also receive support from Swiss Digital Health (for future development).

The RehabCoach project, proposed by the CRR-Suva, received the judge’s choice award for CHF 2,000. This project aims to use clothing that can analyse body movement in order to ensure rehabilitation exercises done at home are performed correctly.

Finally, the "best progress" award was given to the project "What is this pill?" This mobile application makes it possible to determine the name of a medication and its properties based solely on a photo of the pill in question, even out of its packaging. The developers of this project were awarded CHF 3,000.

Total success and national scope

"The 3rd edition was a total success," says Sébastien Mabillard, head of the Swiss Digital Health platform and co-organizer of the event, "25 challenges were presented by healthcare professionals on Friday when the hackathon was launched. The 60 or so developers have worked on 12 of them, with remarkable results. "

The Arkathon Hacking Health Valais brought together digital health specialists from all over Switzerland and beyond. The health professionals who proposed challenges were drawn from the HUG (Geneva), the PMU (Lausanne), the CRR-Suva (Sion), the Valais Hospital and CIPRET.
